Ecclesiastes 9:1-6 ~ The Application of Wisdom to Injustice

Solomon says, “The righteous and their works, they are in the hand of God.” He directs our steps. It is His sovereignty; it is His providence that leads and guides us. Enjoy and rejoice in that relationship, rejoice in that over your life, rather than fretting and worrying about life working out for you, because it won’t.

Matthew 17:14-21 Part 3 ~ The Doctrine of Faith Part 3

God measures faith. Whatever He wants us to do, He gives us the faith to do it. If you have to force it then it is not the faith of the Bible, it is not the faith of Jesus Christ, it is psychology. It is you forcing yourself, influencing yourself, to be a certain way to get God to bless you. That is not the faith of the Bible.

Hebrews 13:1-6

The manner of life that we live in response to Christ is with the promise that He is never going to leave us nor not ever forsake us. He will always be with us. It is living in a constant state of confidence and boldness (not arrogance) that God is with me and He is never going to fail me.

Matthew 17:14-21 Part 2 ~ The Doctrine of Faith Part 2

Joshua Chapter 1 ~ What it Takes to Walk with the Lord

Constantly meditating on God’s Word keeps our mind focused on the Lord because when our mind gets focused on other things we get drawn away by temptation. What did it take to walk with the Lord? Meditate. Keep your mind focused on the Lord through His Word day and night. But notice also, the meditation is in order to do it. It’s not just listening, it’s not just reading, it’s doing the Word of God.

Matthew 17:14-21 Part 1 ~ The Doctrine of Faith Part 1

It is faith that works, not people working faith. Faith is producing the works, it is not people. If you say you have faith then the faith should have activity to it.

Matthew 14:22-36 Part 2 ~ The Lesson of Peter Walking on the Water

Now, there are people who teach from these texts that if Peter had enough faith, he would not have sunk into the waves. What they’re really saying is that if Peter had enough faith, he would have no need to call to Jesus. He wouldn’t need the Lord. Peter says, ‘Lord save me!’ That is what the Lord is there for. It exhibits the weakness of man. It exhibits the faithfulness of God.

Matthew 17:9-13 ~ The Coming Age of Restoration

We think humanistically rather than spiritually.  We think a God of love will not cause people to be hurt or offended over our decisions to be obedient to Christ and that is not true.  When people are hurt and offended over my obedience to Christ, that is my testimony and I know my testimony is bringing conviction.  There is going to be separation because people are making spiritual choices.  You either belong to Jesus Christ or you don’t.  You’re either following Jesus Christ or you are not.

Ephesians 2:13-14 ~ Jesus is our Peace

In the human realm, as we live out life and circumstances become very disturbing for us – psychologically, emotionally, physically – we’re looking for an infusion of some kind of peace, tranquility in the area that is all worked up and messed up and worried and afraid.  But it is being spiritually minded – it is in the spirit – that we experience life and peace.  The life of Christ and the peace of Christ.

Matthew 17:1-8 Part 2 ~ Our Blessings in Christ

Christians wrestle with their performance but our performance is not the basis of a right relationship with God. The basis of a right relationship with God is having Christ the Son living inside of me. Him in my spirit is the only thing that is acceptable and well-pleasing to God the Father.

Ephesians 6:6-8 ~ The Spiritual Perceptions for Serving Christ

These are not psychological principles. It’s a relationship with Christ. Have the correct perception here, because you are not serving men by obeying your master, you are serving Christ. It’s not me taking my orders from the Lord and going over here and having this human relationship. No, this is between me and the Lord. I’m serving the Lord; I’m not serving people.

Matthew 17:1-8 Part 1 ~ The Purpose for the Transfiguration of Christ

You can’t have suffering and you can’t have the surrendering of your life to Christ without knowing that in the future there is going to be glory, and there is going to be transformation.  These two chapters together present the proper perspective of life.  Most of the time our perspective is incomplete; we only see the human, the suffering, the hardship, the difficulty.  It is very important that we see both the human and the spiritual.

Acts 20:17-24

I’m going to suffer at the hands of people things that I never would have suffered had I not received Christ. Well, that is not very inviting except for the fact that loving the Lord and receiving the Lord is responding to what He did for me. He suffered at the hands of sinners for me and now He asks me to follow Him suffering at the hands of sinners.

Matthew 16:21-28 Part 3 ~ The Consequences of Discipleship

This is Jesus being up front with people, telling them, “This is what it is going to take to be a disciple.” There are consequences for surrendering to Christ, you have to give up your life. You can’t just believe and go on your way. You must come behind Him and in order to do that, you must reject yourself.

Matthew 16:21-28 Part 2 ~ The Cost of Discipleship

I’m convinced that Christians have the most difficulty, not because Satan is fighting against them, but because they are fighting against God. We are trying to get that flesh off the cross. We are trying to get our life back. I want to be in charge. I want to accomplish the things that I want to accomplish. Jesus said, “You must deny yourself and take up your cross and follow behind Me.”

Matthew 16:21-28 Part 1 ~ The Gospel of the Preservation of the Flesh

Our view and understanding of success, even as a Christian in this world is a lot different than how the Lord sees success in this world. The Lord sees His success, His mission as coming, suffering, being killed, and being raised. Whereas the disciples thought that they were going to go with Him into Jerusalem and just take over, win the victory.

Sermon ~ Satan’s Only Weapon

Peter is talking to Christians. The devil is walking around and his only weapon against a believer in Christ is to find something to occupy the attention of the mind and take that believer away from Christ. Not spiritually, not as far as salvation goes, but to take one’s attention away from Christ.
