Romans 12:3 Part 2 ~ The Frame of Mind of Peter

Every situation and circumstance reveals (not only to me but to everybody else) what my attitude is; what my frame of mind is towards the various things of life. Whether it comes by way of question or whether I find myself in the midst of a trial, those things are going to bring out in me what I value the most and what my frame of mind is.

Romans 12:3 Part 1 ~ The Frame of Mind of Jesus

In verse 3 Paul applies the principles stated in verses 1 and 2 to our fellowship together.  This is an important emphasis of why we need to be transformed. Whether you know it or not, you are dependent on my relationship with the Lord; just like I am on yours. We in the body of Christ are members one of another; just like a human body has many members with differing functions. Christ is ministering through me to you and Christ is ministering through you to me. And so I am dependent on your pursuing a changed and transformed life.

Galatians 5:1-6 Introduction ~ The Explanation of Justification and Sanctification

The Judaizers taught keeping of the law applied to all areas of salvation. In order for you to experience all three aspects of salvation you have to keep the law. They taught the finished work of Jesus Christ – that is His death, burial, and resurrection – was not enough; there was something you have to do. That is blasphemy.

Colossians 3:1-2 ~ The Correct Motivation & Meditation of the Believer

Rarely are we aware of the influences we are taking in that creating the disposition of our minds. Every person I talk to, everything I watch, everything I listen to, every atmosphere I am in; it all affects my life. And in reverse, my decisions, the words I say to people, the way I treat people, affects their life. We are living a life filled with influences; and we are making choices based on who and what is influencing our thinking processes. Most people don’t care; they just do whatever is enjoyable. But the influence that comes from those things has a tremendous effect on the frame and the disposition of the mind.

John 8:37-47

A person is not really who they are until they are face to face with God’s Word. We can believe whatever we want to believe, talk anyway we want to talk, and live anyway we want to live; but when it comes down to it our response to our interaction with the truth of God reveals who we really are. Jesus presents a proper relationship with Him is characterized by a person’s relationship with His Word.  Are we receptive? Do we seek it?  Hunger for it? Those who do not belong to Him, there is no room in their life for the Word of God. None. Present Tense. They are not hearing, they have no ability to hear the Word of God. And the one who is from God is hearing the Words of God.

Philippians 3:19 ~ Setting Ones’ Mind on Earthly Things

If you don’t know any other verse in the Bible, Matthew 6:24 is the verse you need to know.  These three things are the principles of discipleship.  You can’t get to Jesus, follow Him, believe in Him, or be His disciple any other way than these three things.

Philippians 3:17 ~ Paul the Pattern of the Christian Life

God has left us an example; another human being who is weak in the flesh and sold under sin as you and I are.  Paul says, “I have this blessed ministry of this apostleship, which nobody else can have; but what I share through this apostolic ministry is the relationship I have with Jesus Christ anybody can have.” That’s right, Paul presented himself as the normal Christian.

Matthew 5:43-48 ~ The Correct Understanding of Love Part 2

In other words you are not keeping the destructive process going.  I am sure you have noticed that we human beings, because of our sin nature, have a way of destroying each other through prejudices and hatred and just our own misery.  But Jesus said, No!  The end result of all of this is your function and purpose in life is going to be God’s purposes.  You are not going to be part of the destructive process.  If you are treated a certain way you do not return in kind.  That destructive process stops with you.

Matthew 5:43-48 ~ The Correct Understanding of Love Part 1

Paul says that he knows that in his flesh is no good thing.  He has tried to keep the law in his human effort but his flesh is weak and there is no good thing in it, only sin, so he cannot keep the law.  He says, “It comes down to this: with my mind I serve the law of God.  I agree with it and I say, ‘I want that to be for my life;’ but I am also saying that I do not have the ability to do it.”  That is the key to it all, “I don’t have the ability to do that, Lord, it has got to be by Your Spirit.”  And going back to Ezekiel 36 that is His promise.  His Spirit will fulfill His statutes and laws.  His Spirit will perform them.  My responsibility is to acknowledge that; not to take it as a challenge for me to go out and do what God tells me to do.

I Corinthians 15:3-11

By the grace of God I am what I am.
What a great truth. It is not who I am it is what I am.
You might have your weaknesses, you might have your faults, and you might have your sins; but when God’s Spirit comes into your heart He makes you what He wants you to be and it is only by His grace.
The one who is not sufficient to function in any calling is the one He calls because it is only by His grace that we are what we are. And we can look at our failures and dwell on the reality of those failures but the truth of the matter is, in spite of who we are, God makes us what we are.
By the grace of God I am what I am.

Matthew 10:34-39 ~ The Cost of Discipleship Part 2

I am going to shed some light here on something that people stumble around because that they do not understand this concept. Loving other people is giving yourself wholly and totally to the Lord. That is how you love people. It is not what you do for them. It is how you walk with Christ.

Matthew 10:34-39 ~ The Cost of Discipleship Part 1

I want people to see my decision to respond to and be obedient to Christ. And I want them to get upset about that. Because I want them to see their need for Christ; to see that they are walking in rebellion to Christ. I want them to know and I want them to see that their eternal soul is dependent upon how they respond to Christ, not religion, and if they continue in their own way they will die in their sins. My witness to people is the things that I suffer and the things that I sacrifice for. But as for me and my household, as for me and my life, I will serve the Lord. I will suffer for it in relationships, in opportunities, in circumstances, in situations. That is my testimony.

Philippians 2:5-8 ~ Let This Mindset Be In You Part 2

Have the same approach, the same attitude, toward yourself and the things of life as Jesus did.  When Jesus came did He choose the best room in the hotel to be born in?  No, He chose the low road.  He was here to accomplish the Father’s purpose.

Philippians 2:5-8 ~ Let This Mindset Be In You Part 1

The emphasis here is on the deity of Christ; and the fact that He took on the form of a slave so that He might serve us. And that is our illustration because the command in verse 5 is, Let this mind – this thinking, this mindset, be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus. So we must ask the question: What was the Lord’s attitude about this earthly life? What was His approach to this earthly life?

I Peter 2:1-3 ~ The Spiritual Growth in Salvation

If you have tasted of the things of God, you are going to want more.  If you have tasted that the Lord is useful.  He is the one that satisfies your longings.  He is the one that satisfies your hungry soul.  God made it that way so that we cannot find satisfaction in anything else other than Him.  He is the only one that will satisfy the soul.

Isaiah 30:1 & Joshua Chapter 9

We can be deceived by circumstances.  We make decisions sometimes based on a deception that has been presented to us because, unfortunately, Satan opens doors too. And God doesn’t send messages from heaven, He is not an information booth. But He also doesn’t leave us in a maze of circumstances trying to figure out what He wants us to do. What God wants me to do is what He does. I am to be a follower of Jesus Christ.

Philippians 4:10-13 ~ God’s Will for Every Believer in Every Situation Part 5

The word content in Greek means to be self-contained, not self-sufficient but self-contained. Paul realized that everything he needed for life resided within, where Christ dwelt. He had no need of anything outside of himself. He is equally content in every circumstance; for he has learned the mystery of contentment. Furthermore, He tells us we must be initiated; we must go through the school of learning if we are to have the mysteries of contentment worked out in our lives.
